Tehachapi...Union Pacific's Mojave Sub

The Tehachapi Mountains create a natural barrier between California's fertile San Joaquin Valley and the arid Mojave Desert. That barrier was breached 140 years ago by Southern Pacific's civil engineer William Hood. The result was an engineering marvel that is still impressive today.

Both BNSF and Union Pacific keep these rails polished with increasingly long and heavy trains. The Tehachapis have a reputation as a hard climb with a stiff 2.2% grade on both sides of the summit. Trains negotiate numerous curves, pass through several tunnels and wrap around the crown feature that has attracted railfans from all over the world: the Tehachapi Loop.

Our journey begins in Bakersfield as we travel timetable south through the mountains to Mojave. Stacks, manifests, hot intermodals, and heavy unit grain trains grind up grade to Summit Switch, then drop down into the desert. Night and day, the pass resounds with the steady drum of prime movers, the squeal of wheel flanges, and the whine of heavy dynamics.
Join us on an exciting adventure through Southern California's back country as 7idea Productions presents: Tehachapi...Union Pacific's Mojave Sub.

I am very impressed with any dvd that 7idea video produces. I have many of their videos and will purchase more in the future. Very high quality camera work. I collect mostly videos filmed in California and Tehachapi has the best in modern Southern California railroading.

Yet another fantastic 7Idea release. I have all of 7Ideas Bluray releases and I am as pleased with the first one I bought as this latest release. If you want to see quality vision of trains at work, then these Blurays are for you. Fabulous and thank you 7Idea.

Having several DVDs on Tehachapi I was slow to order this one. But, because it was on BlueRay I ordered it. Am I glad I did. This is the BEST one, by far, I've seen. 7Idea has done it again. Very good. Great photography and narrative.

Of the 20 or so train videos I own, this is my favorite. Superb image and sound quality. For pretty much every scene and location I find myself agreeing with Aaron's composition, meaning he gets the best shot possible for every situation. Blu-ray transfer is fabulous (I can see no reason to justify buying this in standard DVD (480i) when you can own it in 1080p). The narration is enjoyable and this disc stands up to repeated viewings. The only caveat I would mention is that, while this is a UP subdivision, we see far more BNSF trains than UP. The ratio is about 70:30. That might irk some UP die-hards. In my book, this is a real winner from 7idea!
