This program covers the numerous railroad changes that have occurred over the past 20 years across the Mesabi Iron Range in scenic Northeastern Minnesota. With rail line mergers and acquisitions there are now three new railroads since our original 1992 release of Taconite Trains of Minnesota. Plus, new diesel power and several railroads have also added new ore cars to their fleet. The rail action includes long unit trains of: taconite pellets, crude ore, limestone and tailings. The iron ore products are either being transported to taconite processing plants across the Iron Range or to their Great Lakes shipping ports that are located on the shore of Lake Superior. Witness the awesome diesel power that's needed to pull these extremely heavy ore trains.
