The restored 765 is a terrific engine to see anytime but in Blu-Ray along the old PRR on stone and concrete bridges over the Susquehanna River and around Horseshoe Curve makes this a very special and particularly enjoyable production. The composition of the Rockville bridge scenes was just outstanding. The NS F-unit Thoroughbred business train makes an appearance in Harrisburg. A PRR K4 whistle was used in several locations on the 765. I am watching it in segments for the third time and this will be one to be watched annually. Let me say right off the top that NKP 765 is a personal favorite among steam locomotives operating today. That said, this producer is new to me, but I must say they have done a fine job. Video is crisp and clear, audio is natural, as it should be. Narration is direct and to the point, pleasant but not overpowering. I did find one small error in the narration, but only the really observant steam enthusiast will notice...there are enough unexpected surprises in the program to keep you watching. If NS has any doubts about its' 21st Century Steam program, this program clearly indicates the public wants and likes it. In all, a well done program worth the $ Steam Returns to the Pittsburgh Line 765 DVD Choo Choo John (Colorado) on 2013-11-14 08:45:59.
Blu-Ray Quality good. Nickel Plate #765 looks great. Program subject is good, however I feel it is aimed more toward the novice railfan rather than the avid railfan. Too much of the train and/or locomotive sitting still, and not enough action. As a life-long steam fan, I want to see a steam locomotive moving and making lots of noise. Wheels and rods twirling and whirling. Whistle blowing. Smoke from the stack. For me, there was not enough of that. |
