In this new program, we start off with a montage of boats in the waters of Duluth Minnesota, followed by a birds eye view of Lake Superior to see both Minnesota and Wisconsin meeting together. As well as seeing various cargo ships going through open bridges with horn salutes. But the main focus of this program is newly restored Duluth and Northeastern 2-8-0 number 28 which was built as DM&IR 332 on some of the chartered specials. However some CN freights are also shown, but the new kid on the block puts on a spectacular show from Duluth to two harbors throughout September last year. A tour of the Lake Superior railroad museum is included as well as some still images of the DM&IR. Inside the museum, we witnessed Yellowstone type locomotive 227 with its robotic wheels moving as the loudspeaker does a short history of the fast articulated engines. In order to help the consolidation, 2 DM&IR Diesels number 193 and 316 built in 1960 will assist the power for the old steamer. Some unique semaphore signals are also shown. On September 7, last year, the 332 powers the ore train, while the diesels will handle the passengers. Some go pro camera footages are mostly shown in the cab. A map of Duluth is shown with Amtrak capitol limited music from south bend to Chicago is used from America by rail the heartland which in a matter of months would celebrate a big 25th anniversary. Along with N&W 611 on home rails, this was the second railway productions program to feature music from the late Michael Lynch. From Duluth we studied the line to two harbors but with Chicago to Burlington Iowa music. At the 17 minute mark, the go pro camera footage begins as we are pacing at Duluth. Next a photo runby is going to be performed at Fitgerï¿½s breweries that is now transformed into a hotel. It is been confirmed that the diesels took the Railfans to some selective photo stops, so that everyone could get out, and also witnessed 2 specials at the same photo spot. It has also been confirmed that the go pro camera was shot from one of the 2 coaches. One of the most photographed locations on the north shore scenic railway is the bridge over little sucker river. One thing I forgot to mention is that the ore train had a bay window caboose on the rear. Unfortunately the weather was really bad as rail was falling down. At marbles Minnesota, 332 took over the passenger duties while the diesels handle the ore train. The riding footage from here was shot behind the tender. Unfortunately due to misunderstanding comments from Canadian National, the 2 specials stopped at the east end of the line to two harbors depot. Instead the diesels returns to Duluth with the ore train, as only 332 performs the final runby sir he day beginning at the bridge over north shore scenic drive. Our next scene is at Tomï¿½s logging camp followed by 2 scenes at Alseth road. The next day September 8, finds the locomotive being reidentified as Duluth and Northeastern 28 on a mixed train. Our first scene of the day is at the Fitgerï¿½s brewery plant, where we are standing next to the lake. First on a bridge, and then on ground level next to the track. Then we are onboard the train for the way up to our next location at palmers, with onboard go pro footage. At Palmers, 2 runbys are to be made here. The 3rd scene at palmers is only a few miles down the line. Next we are at the little sucker river bridge for 2 more runbys. Then we are east of the bridge heading to two harbors. Our next runby is at Tomï¿½s logging camp. Followed by a runby at an unknown spot. Next we are crossing over the North Shore scenic highway bridge. At marbles Minnesota, the locomotive heads to two harbors leaving the consist behind as we saw some CN freight action over the bridge. This musical piece was shown in the Southwest Chief video from 1997. A tour of two harbors is included, as well as some display engines nearby, as well as tugboat Edna G built in 1896. More docks are included at two harbors with music from Sacramento to Mt Shasta in the west coast route video from 1995, which includes a look at cargo ship Tim S. Dool built in Canada during 1967. Back at marbles, the locomotive has since been turned around, and would perform more runbys heading back to Duluth, starting with the bridge over the French river for 2 runbys which includes 1 scene next to the camera person extremely close to the left. Next we are north of highway 61. Followed by a scene with flowers on the foreground. Then we witnessed go pro camera footage, this time we are inside the cab of the engine to Duluth. Next, on the day before the not so sweet 16th anniversary of the 9-11-01 attacks, as we see the locomotive on a regular trip from Duluth to palmers and return. Finally we bid farewell to the north shore which includes the lift bridge going up to allow the Edgar B. speer built in 1979 to pass by with music from The west coast route video thatï¿½s included in this closing segment. With brilliant footage, great music from the late Mike Lynch, and also a fine job to Lesï¿½ own narration, this is an interesting program for many north central USA Railfans to enjoy over and over again.
