Part of the busy Santa Fe Transcon line, the "Chilli" sub runs from Chicago to Fort Madison, Iowa, crossing the Illinois River at Chillicothe. We see the Chillicothe Sub just prior to the BNSF merger with a lot of intermodal traffic and a lot of red and silver warbonnets. This is a busy line with over 50 trains a day and must accommodate Amtrak as well as Santa Fe trains.This program was shot using professional equipment of the time, but is not up to the clarity of today's high-definition video. It is however an excellent snapshot of an important time and place in the nation's railroad history.
