North America’s last real streetcar system. While a few places have retained trunk tunnels with a few branches, and many others have recently built light rail lines, all of the real systems are gone except this one. A system includes many lines and that means lots of special work and depot track. In keeping with North American tradition, power is collected with poles. Another tradition lost elsewhere is frequent service, and Toronto could us the slogan “always a car in sight”. Put all this together and you get the sounds and activity that drew you towards streetcars originally. If lots of car clattering over special work wasn’t enough, this program was shot while Toronto’s large trolley bus system was still in full operation, and these coaches meet our LRV at every junction where the lines intersect. The LVRs have resilient wheels so that they sound similar to PCCs. In addition, some of Toronto’s PCCs were rebuilt, and this program covers, with a round trip, the operation that makes use of them, the Harbcurftont LRT.
