In the spring of 2022, Reading T-I #2102 returned to service after a six-year restoration at the Reading & Northern's headquarters in Port Clinton, PA. The big 4-8-4 was busy from April to November pulling both excursion trains and the occasional freight on some of the very same trackage it was built for. After the last trip in the fall the locomotive entered the shop for winter maintenance. With the work complete, #2102 was ready for another season of excursions and a schedule of six trips was announced for 2023.
Running the familiar Reading to Jim Thorpe route, #2102 pulled three Iron Horse Rambles during the summer months and then three Autumn Leaf Excursions in the fall. This program begins with coverage of the second Iron Horse Ramble on August 13th, then chronicles all three Autumn Leaf Excursions in October. The last trip of the year features footage from in the cab, including an extended sequence in the afternoon as the locomotive claws up the tough grade to Nesquehoning.
