In the 614 portion of the combo DVD, there is an interview with engineer Ross Rowland as well as a cab ride aboard the 1948 lima Ohio built greenbrier type 4-8-4 through the new river gorge. Some of these scenes in the video rails version of the January 1985 coverage of 614 on the month long coal trains were later used in the best of video rails part 1 from 1990, & tape 2 of Today's steam across America by pentrex in 1995. Besides video rails, other producers like Hopewell productions, goodheart productions, Mark 1 video, & even future famous America by rail producer Greg Scholl were also there for this once in a lifetime event, although some of Greg's Angles of 614 in the show was shown in winter wonderland from 1996, reflections from 2002, & even Steaming up the new river gorge by skyfire in 1995. This half hour portion of the combo was narrated by Donald Harris.

In the hassayampa special portion of the combo that was originally released by max media in conjunction with Interurban press, it starts with the early morning hours at the grand canyon railway headquarters in Williams Arizona as former lake superior & ishpeming 2-8-0 number 18 is being prepared for the 2 day trip to the state capitol of Phoenix & back. The time is 6:30 AM as the crew continues to check on number 18, which has since been moved to the Rio Grande scenic railroad in Alamosa Colorado. This once in a lifetime special features the 1910 built consolidation carrying a tank car full of water & 3 coaches. An hour has passed meaning that the sun is still rising as number 18 rings the bell, releases the blow down effect, give 2 toots on the whistle, & leaves the grand canyon railway tracks behind. It'll take about 235 miles from Williams to Phoenix. Note the flashing rear end device on coach 2089. Away from the Williams depot, number 18 gets some help from Santa Fe B40-8 number 7445 in the old school blue & yellow scheme between Williams & ash fork. With the diesel removed at ash fork, the former LS&I consolidation chugs into town as it passes by some boxcars while ringing it's own bell. Picking up speed at 35 miles per hour number 18 heads for drake. Once at drake, number 18 blows the whistle as it heads for the big canyon while crossing over the trestle. Initially enough, this is the same track where 3751 crosses the bridge in August of 2002 on the return trip to los Angeles. Moments later, the engine crosses over the highway bridge at Paulden. 16 miles east of Prescott is skull valley. Here we see number 18 whistling for the crossing While passing by the camera crew, then a look at the Kirkland post office is shown. The last time that steam powered through this town was in 1952. Another railroad crossing means another whistle show for number 18 as it rolls through the desert scenery. Between Kirkland & hillside, the LS&I consolidation is at the flats with some mountains in the background. Afterwards, the locomotive is billowing some black smoke out of the funnel. Then we get a nice runby of number 18 with some sounds of automobiles offscreen as well as a whistle show. People are waiting for the arrival of an unusual visitor from another town in the grand canyon state where an overnight stop would be made in Wickenburg. From Williams to the overnight stop at Wickenburg, it took about 177 miles. As number 18 arrives at the crossing, the camera cuts to the cab ride, & cuts back to the ground, & vice versa. While stopped, there is some service before the second & last day's trip to the state capitol tomorrow February 22, 1991. Speaking of the following day, the number 18 has a large yellow ribbon up front as the clock strikes 12:30 in the afternoon. This was most likely because of the continuation of the Gulf war. The bells are ringing as number 18 blows the whistle for the departure to Phoenix while passing by a crossing. Away from the overnight stop, the consolidation is alongside the hassayampa river bed, then it highballs for the state capitol while whistling for some chasers. Afterwards, the number 18 crosses over the agua fria river bridge. Listen carefully for some helicopters offscreen, and also note the cameraman filming on top of the tender. All to soon, the rare mileage trip comes to a close as the number 18 arrives at the state capitol. Kids & adults from The area wanted to see this once in a lifetime special arriving at.The depot. The engine would be on display during February 23, & 24 before heading back to Williams on February 25.

Whether it's the cold weather in West Virginia or really hot in Arizona, these 2 locomotives can show what the true meaning of steam railroading is all about.
