Time. Unseen element in all we do. We can try to measure it; railroads create timetables to regulate activity. In the case of New Haven, yard movements were pared down to the quarter minute. Time zones were created to bring rail schedules into sync with local, or "sun time". Conductors (and passengers) complain about "losing time", or running late. Daily time management is one thing, but on this issue, we view larger chunks of 35, 100, 150, 200, 250 years. 2025 marks 200 years since Stockton & Darlington.

Chicago Union now it has turned 100! In 1977 at the bumper post stood side-by-side representatives to two eras. One was a Lackawanna streamlined coach, coupled to faded Tuscan red P70s forming a local train to Valparaiso. Next track over saw a harbinger of things to come: A Superliner coach boarding passengers for St. Louis. These had just been delivered and were in trial revenue service. Yes - Time. And times were changing.
