Two of New York’s major airports are at long last, rail served. Newark, served by the Northeast corridor and the trains of both New Jersey Transit and Amtrak, has been connected by a monorail and a new station. Kennedy airport, long the international gateway to America, is connected to both the Long Island Railroad and the MTA subway. The subway is an ongoing story, huge and vital to the city. Massive amounts have been invested and continue to be, but in the midst of that, historic cars are being restored and operated on fan trips, producing fascinating rides and some interesting video. The centennial ceremony is covered as well as the 1904 opening trip with the mayor was restaged from the long-closed City Hall station using original LOW-V cars. Lest we forget, just across the river, Hudson-Bergen light rail is helping to bring Jersey City and Hoboken back to life.
