Minnesota's Railroads, Volume 6 continues C. Vision's tour of railroads operating in the Land of 10,000 Lakes! In this production, we visit the Minnesota Commercial Railway. This short line carrier operates in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Operating over 150 route miles, the Minnesota Commercial is the oldest and most connected new short line carrier in Minnesota.

The Commercial operates several jobs serving industries on lines once operated by the Minnesota Transfer Railway Company, along with operating on tracks leased by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe, Canadian Pacific and Union Pacific. The Commercial also interchanges with all of the railroads in the Minneapolis-St. Paul region. In this video, we follow 6 of the major jobs the Commercial operates, along with capturing some transfers.

This railroad is truly unique as it operates with second generation Dash 7 General Electric locomotives including B-23 dash 7's and a B-36 dash 7. If you are an Alco fan, this railroad has a treat for you! You will see one of the last two RS-27's in existence operating the Hennepin Job as well as a C424 teamed up with a slug working the yard.

Minnesota's Railroads, Volume 6 is a short line lovers dream! The G.E. and Alco's distinctive "chugging" sound is brought to life with the Minnesota Commercial!

Shortline railroad action is always interesting, but when it takes on that of a city theme, and basically switching duties and transfer runs, the interest really adds. This video is just that as we are treated to the shortline "Minnesota Commercial Railway" based in St. Paul Minnesota. Featuring GE's B-23-7's and B-36-7's, C424, and a few Alco (MLW's), the action is that of the 1960's and 70's, but actually in present day. There is not high speed action in this video. The scenery shown is almost a rural scene, but within the confines of a major city. There is some history of the lines shown, and we see a bit of the Class 1's at transfer points. Narration is limited to the scene at hand, and all the natural sounds are clear. Listen to the sound as the old engines work hard. It's a real treat in the world of today's railroading. Black smoke pours out of the Alcos as they are put to the tasks at hand. There is also a tour of a trans-loading facility shown that is operated by the railroad to serve industries that can not be reached by the railroad.
A great video that I am sure all train fans will really enjoy.

Good information on the railroad and the industries it serves. I would buy another video from Cvision on this railroad if they shot video from some different locations showing switching of some of the other industries, and different trackside locations.
