In this volume, we feature the Progressive Rail. This fascinating short line operates 5 different rail lines in east central Minnesota. We capture all 5 lines with run-bys and switching at many industries.
The Northfield to Lakeville line is an ex-Minneapolis, Northfield and Southern Route. Progressive Rail purchased this line from the Canadian Pacific in 2004 and operates a daily train each way using an ex-MN&S SD-39 in an inspired MN&S paint scheme.
The Progressive Rail also uses an ex-MN&S SW-1500, along with other SW-1500s in the MN&S scheme on their other routes. The Highline is another ex-MN&S line that runs through the Minneapolis suburb of Bloomington. The Eagandale line is an ex-Milwaukee Road route that runs from Rosemount to industries in Eagan. You will also see two routes that originate in Northfield including the ex-Chicago Great Western line to Randolph and an in-cab experience on the trackage rights train to Faribault.
Progressive Rail also operates a warehouse facility in the Airlake Industrial Park in Lakeville. We see operations around the warehouse facility as the PGR serves several customers in the Industrial Park complex.

Where would the mainline, Class 1 operators be today without the shortlines? Not where they are, I believe that is almost a sure thing. This video shows one of many shortlines operating on several different locations in the state of Minnesota. Progressive Rail is small by today's standards, but very efficient. This video shows all the operations including a warehouse facility. Most of the operations is slow going, on old poorly maintained track, much at speeds of 10mph, but some is on trackage rights and we see trains running at speed. This is especially noted when a train leaves the CPR. We can see quickly the change of the tracks, making for an interesting view. There are also a few flashbacks to earlier years when SOO Line was dominant in the region. There is a lot of switching and short haul deliveries covered throughout the video. This makes for some very interesting viewing as it shows the care of a shortline for the local customer.
Like all C-Vision Productions, there is limited narration, which is mainly about the covered segment, and the natural sounds of the operating train as it passes. All noted territory is well covered, with maps to assist our understanding, and the yearly seasons are covered.
An excellent presentation that is well worth the purchase. Highly recommended.
