Cab Car Ride is basically a ride in a cab car, as it says. All the way from Libertyville to Chicago's Union Station, the camera always looks straight head. The colour appears to be a bit off, ie... to much green in the trees. Narration is limited, but we are able to hear the conversations in the cab, which is quite interesting. There is not a lot of information about the line or the area, but a few comical stories along the way. Personally, it was not a huge thrill for me, but those fans interested in the greater Chicago area or commuter rail service, it would likely be a fairly good video.
Additional comments:
Narration: Could have used more.
Would kids enjoy this? I doubt it.
Image quality: A little rough around the edges.
Value: Fair.
Recommend? Only if really interested.

Made in 2002, this 15 going into 16 year old DVD showcases the ride between Libertyville and the north side of Chicago Union Station. The commentary from Les and the 2 engineers were alright, but it should've been nice to include a steam locomotive excursion on one of Metra's lines, and also includes meets with other trains and construction crews.
Additional comments:
Narration: Just enough.
Would kids enjoy this? Yes.
Image quality: Excellent!
Value: Excellent value!
Recommend? "Must Have"!

This program covers a cab ride on a Metra cab control car on the Milwaukee District North Line that runs between Chicago Union Station and Fox Lake. Although the cab ride begins at Grayslake, the real action starts at Libertyville so that the camera equipment could be set up.

One of the major highlights of this program is that, unlike other cab ride videos produced by Railway Productions, EVERY INCH of the line is covered in its entirety from Libertyville to Union Station due to the many station stops that the train makes being a commuter train.

There are also several meets in this program: a northbound Metra @ Lake Cook Road, a hi-rail vehicle @ Northbrook, Amtrak's northbound "Hiawatha" @ Golf, and another northbound Metra @ Mayfair.

In addition, the rails cross over other rail lines at grade and the on-screen graphics illustrate which lines are being crossed. Although there is limited narration, the on-screen graphics do the commentary throughout the program listing the station stops and highlights of the journey. In addition, there is chatter by Engineer Frank Marlene and Metra Spokesman Frank Malone and guest Les Jarrett.

The only downside is that being a Metra cab ride, there is not much in terms of whistle blowing because of ordinances in the Chicago suburbs that prevent the whistle from being blown.

Overall, this is a program is a must for those who love cab rides and to get a glimpse of Metra. There is a supplementary program by Railway Productions that provides a very informative backkground on Metra called "Chicago's Metra" since it is produced in cooperation with the company and so is also a nice addition to the cab ride.
