Ever since their spectacular entry into service in September 1935, the charismatic and uniquely streamlined Pacific type (4-6-2) “Gresley” A4s have been at the forefront of thousands of British railfans' affections. They reigned supreme on the East Coast Main Line for more than 75 years, from the days of Gershwin through to the time of the Beatles, racing from London to Scotland. One, Mallard, set the steam locomotion land speed record.
