"The Hub City" seems a pretentious claim for this place of under 10,000 persons. But, it has the Lincoln Highway, two intertates, and two double track railroads to back up that title. Rochelle has developed railroad park as a means to capitalize on the railfan popularity, and it is considered a model for other trackside locales nationwide. And what is to be seen? The double track diamonds just west of the park were pounded by an average of 80 to 90 UP and up to 40 or more BNSF freights every 24 hours. Witness an unrelenting dawn to dusk procession of coal intermodal general freight along with a few locals. A wide variety of motive power, new and older GEs and EMDs bearinq over a dozen paint schemes, are seen from points all over town including by the two stations which nave not seen a scheduled passenger train since 1971. Here's your ticket to a day at Rochelle!
