L&N 4-6-2 152 was built in 1905 so its over 100 years old, but still looks like a well proportioned modern steam engine, and puts on a nice show on the Kentucky Railway Museum's former L&N trackage from New Haven to Boston. We begin with morning activities as 152 readies the train and pulls up to the depot. Then we capture some of the best locations on the route as 152 pulls 2 trips with 6 coaches, and an evening trip with 3 coaches. In between we will see them run-around the train at Boston to set-up the return trip.
The following day we ride the cab of 152 seated right behind the engineer as we head out of New Haven with another 6 car train. There are several slow orders and each time we charge out of a slow order back to regular track speed which makes for a nice show from 152's stack. Watch the track ahead and out the side of the window, as well as see scoops of coal going into the firebox from the shovel. This section has a brief narrative to set-up the cab ride and then runs narration-free until we reach Boston.
This is the first newly videotaped contemporary steam video we have produced since 2007 and its something you too can go see at the Kentucky Railway Museum. 152 only operates on selected weekends throughout the year and 2011 may be the last time it runs for quite some time, since it is due for major refurbishing after 2011.
Note: Also see our "152 Suspended In Time" which has excursions in 1988.

Now as Greg mentioned, this program was split into 2 parts. One for runbys, the other for the uncut cab ride. The bonus segment features an optical illusion that 2 cameras were at the same time and the same pace with the sound taken from the cab ride. After that, there are 2 previews that are related to this title. 1 featuring 152 from 1988, the other being an all wide-screen video of a ride in canada during 1999.
Additional remarks by Steamboy: Narration:Just enough. Would kids enjoy this?Yes. Image quality:Good. DVD Value::Fair. Recommend to others?A "Must Have"!
