Hard to believe this great DVD is only $9.95, even the Blue Ray Disc is $9.95. Nicely photographed, well narrated this DVD shows all the action on the joint UP & CSX main line, it starts out in the suburbs of Chicago and follows the UP & CSX action down to Villa Grove. A nice variety of trains and power are seen. One nice thing about photographing a rail line running north and south like this one the sun is perfect for photography in the morning and afternoon. Its a A++++ DVD anyway the fact you get it for only $9.95 no reason not to have a copy of this one. The Blue Ray quality is fantasic. I welcome the improvement over "Bailey Yard" production. Yes..shots were taken from grade crossings. Maybe Peter didn't want to trespass on rr property. Personally, I like the sound of train horns. Maybe there could have been some more narration. .....maybe. But I did like the sound & quality if narrator's voice. I like Highball......IMO....keep em coming Peter! Same problem I've had with other Highball Productions! Hardly any narrative and what there was wasn't very enlightening. For the first 40 minutes of this 1hr 40min disc all shots were taken from the same place, several different camera locations, but at the same place. Almost all camera locations are near a protected grade crossing so that there is the incessant clanging of the warning bells. VERY distracting and tough on the ears. I doubt I'll get any more Highball productions until I hear that they have improved in these areas. They don't seem to use any imagination in location, always setting up near convenient, to them, locations. Anyone with a camera can photograph trains and Highball is that anyone! The Blue Ray was good though. Illinois Joint Line CSX & UP on the UP Villa Grove Sub DVD rrvideoman (Delisle Saskatchewan) on 2020-04-06 13:31:59.
Villa Grove Illinois, roughly 160 miles south of Chicago. Lots of great action by CSX & the UP. Grade crossing dominate this program with many railroad companies seen between these 2 locations. For rail fans who enjoy spending time watching trains, this is what the video is.... standing and watching the trains from locations many railfans would do so. There could have been more narration, but what is there is fine. The natural sounds of the rail fan experience is excellent. Started off a little slow for myself, but got heaps better the longer it was viewed. A really good mix of several roads that we normally wouldn't see, enough to keep my young blokes interest in the action. Interesting trackwork at the beginning. Could have used more commentary on the types of locos and destinations for us foreigners. |
