Having always been a big fan of Highball Productions and Peter Crook's videography-skills, I was tempted to purchase this release for quite a while. I was hesitant, however, because I envisioned 90 minutes of nothing but switchers moving cars around the yard and building trains. After seeing the discounted-price, I went ahead and took the plunge, and overall, I'm glad that I did. The focus of the dvd is on east and westbound traffic entering and leaving the yard area. Filming locations include Valley Junction on the west end, just west of the Hwy 58 overpass, the N. 1st Ave. overpass near the station, the Yucca Ave. overpass on the east end of the yard, and lastly, the east end of Daggett. The show opens with some brief drone-footage of the entire yard, followed by U.P.'s 4014 Big Boy passing the station with an Officer's Special. Most enjoyable shooting-location for me was, by far, the Yucca Ave. overpass. Here, we are treated to multiple 2 and 3 train meets (cover photo was shot from this location), all shot with great lighting, and views east and west. The Daggett footage shows trains at track-speed. And even though this is a dvd that I probably will view only occasionally, I'm still glad that I pulled the trigger. This is a "what you see, is what you get" type dvd, with lot's of action and great-quality footage. I certainly hope to see more releases from Peter and HBP!

I have watched this video a couple of times now yet I am somewhat disappointed it in it but still enjoyed it. Why?

It is Blu-Ray and the photography is first rate and the train BNSF/UP action is unbelievably busy, astonishingly so, as noted by the narrator/photographer but there were pieces missing from the production that should have been there. And, the producers should have known better .

The narration in this one was degenerate, way too sparse. Somehow Pentrex could come out with a Cajon Pass production with the longtime voice of Pentrex yet Highball comes out with Peter Crook going into minimal mode with a rather sniveling narration . Just pitiful.

Many producers do not realize that there are many buyers who buy productions to learn more about areas in the railfan sphere. Few care if the producer is trying shave a few bucks off the production by going short on the narration.

They should have brought in the Pentrex guy Dave Drui, or the old one, Peter Falconi for this one. .

This production had few subtitles and zero maps. Some info about the Mojave Sub and its traffic mix and frequency would have been interesting. And that Loram unti in the angled spur that kept appearing . There were way too many trains to have shown their symbols, it was that busy.

But, this is in my collection now and I will watch it periodically and enjoy it.
Barstow is an impressive location. Maybe next time Highball, will do better.
