Marshall Canyon is a “funnel” in eastern Washington State southwest of Spokane on the rail lines going south towards the Columbia River. BNSF, CP, UP share two mainlines through this canyon. The line starts at Latah Junction in Spokane where the old Great Northern, Northern Pacific and the Spokane Portland and Seattle joined, with one track on each side of the canyon. There used to be a 3rd line through the canyon (a former MILW line on which UP had trackage rights) that is now a hiking trail. In the northern part of the canyon, there is a connecting track between the two main lines. Oh, yea! This is a 16x9 Widescreen video!

The program starts at Latah Junction in Spokane and works it's way south through the canyon to Cheney. In addition to BNSF, CP and UP, you get to see the usual run-through power from CSX, NS and Ferromex, and there is a scene of the Palouse River and Coulee City (they interchange is in the canyon) switching an industry. And, thanks to photographer Peter Crook who was obviously paying attention, there is an occasional picture of some of the birds and wildlife in the canyon. A well-preserved old passenger station at Cheney is shown near the end of the video.

This is a great video for the hard-core railfan. It is continuous trains, one right after another and occasionally two at the same time. Fans of the new GEVO, UP's big SD90MACs and the CP “Beaver” paint scheme will also like this video. Narration is minimal and quite satisfactory, and there is an occasional location marker, but there are no train symbol or direction markers, Due to the slower pace and few loud whistles, young children will quickly get bored. Peter's photography is excellent, always sharp and crisp. Some of the scenes are a bit hazy, but that is what you would see during most of the year if you were there.
