It’s off to France for this one. Perhaps the most influential new light rail system in the world today. Opened in the late 1980s the French did not like the appearance of high level platforms nor did they wish their patrons delayed and inconvenienced by steps so they built a car with a great amount of floor just inches above the railhead then had ever been built before. The aesthetics of the cars, and the system, are getting rave reviews from architects and planners the world over. This program features a ride over the entire Line A, the first and longest of what presently is 2 lines, with many runbys. Then we go on to see how other European cities have reacted to the over whelming success of the low floor design as we visit Bern, Mannheim, and Bremen for brief appearances of other adaptions of this concept on more traditional systems
