Many things are gone from the Montreal rail scene. The big (and small) Alco's and MLW's, Via F's, FPA4's and LRC's, commuter F's, flags, open auto racks, cabooses and hooping up orders. This is a much requested redo of our very first program, Montreal's Alco's, completely re-edited with some never before seen footage. Taped around the Montreal area in 1988 and 1989, these are never to be repeated scenes of big Alco's, every train, even intermodals, with a caboose, and most flying flags. Image quality is not as good as today's broadcast digital, but you can't go out and see this stuff!

Alco's/MLW's are all but gone. This video is a farewell type video to these strong power horses that once ran so well in mainline action. The quality of the video is not what we are used to now, but considering when the video was originally made, it is quite acceptable. This is history, and that is very important to preserve it. Good job Highball.

Additional remarks by rrvideoman:
Narration: Just enough.
Would kids enjoy this? Maybe.
Image quality: A little rough around the edges.
DVD Value: Good Value
Recommend to others? A "Must Have"!

If scenery and variety is what you like in a train video pick something else. If motive power and Alco diesels interest you, buy it. You will lose interest without a love of Canadian locomotives and Canadian railroading in general. I have to admit however that Highball did a great job with its documentation. Scenes like these will never be repeated, so the video is worth every penny from a historical point of view.

Additional remarks by Joe:
Narration: Just enough.
Would kids enjoy this? I doubt it.
Image quality: Good.
DVD Value:: Fair.
Recommend to others? Not unless they REALLY were interested in the subject matter.
