American Flyer, Part 1
60 Minutes of S Gauge Fun and Thrills on 4 Fabulous American Flyer Layouts

Bruce Lorence, Tinley Park, IL A story of a small layout that just grew and grew until it absorbed the family room and the laundry room (Bruce has a very understanding wife).

Brad Nelson, Milwaukee, WI (also in Great Toy Trains Layouts of America) An exquisite, scale-detailed layout with gorgeous scenery, both Lionel and American Flyer accessories, and those long, lovely passenger sets winding around mountains and over bridges.

Bruce Mason, Lancaster, PA (also in Great Toy Train Layouts of America) "I tried to create a realistic landscape," says Manson, editor of the TCA's quarterly magazine, "and I am happy with the results = a massive, busy, cross-section of life."

Warren Frost, Vacaville, CA The scenery-making skills acquired in 33 years of scale-model railroading helped create this magnificent backdrop for a wide-array of postwar American Flyer trains. This layout will dazzle even Lionel lovers.

American Flyer, Part 2 Michael Kolosseus, Seattle, WA The finest pure Gilbert layout in the country, Ed Filkowski's three-level masterpiece, and Terry Dyer's celebration of an American Flyer Christmas.

Mike's layout is characterized by open space, an all star line up of Gilbert S gauge, realistic operations, and one-of-a-kind operating accessories - log, milk can, pope and barrel loaders, a magnetic crane and rotary dump - all designed and created by Mike from scratch using only Erector set parts. An amazing layout. Truly amazing.

Ed Filkowski, Chicago, IL Ed combines vintage Flyer trains with American Models and S-Helper. Highlight is a long stretch of five parallel mainlines where a GG-2, a Northern Silver Flash, glides across a span of suspension bridges. Dept. 56 villages provide a colorful backdrop.

Terry Dyer, Rockford, IL Terry captures his boyhood Christmases by combining American Flyer trains and accessories with Plasticville buildings, winter scenery, and Dept. 56 villages to create a winter wonderland where AF Postwar legends dash through the snow.
120 minutes.

This may be TM's best DVD work yet. I especially love Mike Kolesseous' fabulous "catalog" layout and all the wonderful accessories he built himself using Erector set parts. The other layouts are also fascinating and well built tributes the the post war, A.C. Gilbert era of American Flyer trains and highlight especially well why this much maligned toy train was so severely under appreciated by toy train enthusiests for far too long.

Additional remarks by Garrett:
Narration: Just enough.
Would kids enjoy this? Yes.
Image quality: Excellent!
DVD Value: Excellent Value!
Recommend to others? Definitely.

This made in the 90s only TM title/2005 DVD, features 8 incredible layouts, which truth be told was previously shown on Great Toy Train Layouts Of America, and the original Toy Train Revue Video magazine. When this was released on VHS, each tape contains 4 layouts. Fun fact alert: the Terry Dyer layout was one of Joe Stachlers very first narrative projects, ever since he graduated college and Joined Tom In 1995 or 1996. And since then, the production name was commonly called: A McComas/Stachler production. While Im still a Lionel collector sometimes, its still a great watch to take a trip back in time to the 90s, to see what the true meaning of the 2 rail S Gauge models mean to the operators, and even to this day, the legacy continues. The music in both parts were different, on part 1 its traditional stock. While part 2 contains some segments that feature Jim Coffey doing the songs. After all, every man, woman, child, Railfan, schoolteacher, railroad crew, John Deere farmers, and even Marshall Publishing really loves the music of this Indiana based music man.

Additional remarks by Steamboy:
Narration: Just enough.

Image quality: Excellent!
DVD Value:: Fair.
