See SP "battle back to respectability" in the early 90's on the featured lines to the north and many other great locations. This video selected many choice scenes out of hundreds of hours of material to show a great variety of older power and scenic locations. Some of the material used is from film shot in the seventies to balance out the presentation This video has a parade of power with both old and new mixed with foreign power "smoking it up". The second half features many retired units, cabooses and many other surprises! Featuring: Modoc Line Shasta Line Donner Line Snow Fighting Cascade Line Trains Magazine Review The locations are well chosen and camera work is tack-sharp. This is an unusual and much appreciated level of information

What can I say about this video? If you love blaring Nathan P3 airhorns and locomotives dressed in scarlet and grey paint, this job is definitely for you.. This is one of the best DVDs I have in my collection is is for sure the best one I own on the SP. This DVD cover SP's battle back to respectability in the 1990s, my favorite SP era. If you love the SP, this video is a MUST HAVE.

Another look at modern SP by CSP. As with many CSP videos, they make sure to provide thorough coverage of off-the beaten path secondary mainlines or branch lines as well as the usual mainline action. Coverage of the Modoc line was very well done: Though it's a secondary main, the trains are big with lots of big power, and they work hard and can be seen and heard doing so in all their glory. My favorite part was of the shasta division. Some of it was just pre-merger SP with modern and older power, and some was early 1990's stuff, which is pure gold. then we see some winter coverage and the snow-fighting efforts. A nice all around montage of around the system rounds out the program toward the end. Excellent sound and video quality and I'm glad to have this as another of my SP videos. Glad to say shipping time was lightning fast as well.

This is truly an EXTREME DVD. It had lots of action, and unlike other C.S. DVD programs the narration and other boring historical stuff was kept to a minimum, as was the music. This DVD let the SP Trains Shine. And the Bob Morris Photography as well as that of all of the cameramen is outstanding. Believe me this is a well planned and delivered DVD. SP Fans will definately love this one.

Various locations across Northern California, with lots of the many different locomotives in the SP family working grades over 2%. There are some shots of other RR companies including UP, SOO, WP, Rio Grande, McCloud, Central Oregon & Pacific, etc...
Movie includes the fight to save SP from bankruptcy before the UP takeover, with some of the history of the lines included. Some added scenes are a derailment remains, a few "free riders"/hitchhikers, and a couple of yellow U-Boats with a slug in transit. 45 minutes are in the Shasta area with many beautiful scenes of the region.
11 minutes are in Donner Pass with snow fighting equipment working. See bulldozers, spreader plows and rotary plows hand at work. Surprisingly, there is actually more snow fighting in this movie than in Donner Thunder.
The seasons are well covered on the Modoc and Shasta lines, and primarily winter in Donner Pass.
A movie well worth purchasing.

Video displayed the awesome challenges that SP faced on a routine basis in conquering the rugged northwest and Sierra Nevada range. The viewer is taken through the hard times, with under-powered freights and borrowed power outnumbering SP motors. In the end, before their final merger, SP is presented with respectability. I had a sense of nostalgia and respect for this venerable line and have enjoyed it a number of times. I would have liked to see more of the MOW effort as well as yard and shop shots. Enjoy.
