The CSX Corporation was created in 1980 when a pair of holding companies merged. Today's railroad, CSX Transportation, did not come into existence until 1986.
This program in The Heritage Series from Diverging Clear Productions examines the formative years of CSX from the end of the Chessie and Seaboard systems in 1985 through CSX's own image in the early 90's.
This program focuses primarily on the mid 80's, with locomotives increasingly painted for CSX only appearing in the last third of the show.
Locomotives painted for Chessie System, Baltimore & Ohio, Seaboard System, Family Lines, Seaboard Coast Line, Louisville & Nashville and Clinchfield are plentiful. Later shots show CSX power in the all grey, blue and grey, and finally yellow, blue and grey liveries.
Trains are seen in Illinois, Alabama and Kentucky, and include all kinds of weather from sun to snow to rain to fog. In addition to trackside scenes, there is plenty of pacing as well.
Rare locomotives include U23 and U36B's, U30C's, SD45 and SD45-2's, GP35's, GP16 rebuilds and even a GP30.
Any fan of CSX, Chessie System, Family Lines and their predecessors will enjoy this program from Diverging Clear Productions.
