Day at the Museum Spencer North Carolina DVD Click to enlargeNote: Cover image may differ from actual product This program marks the 40th anniversary of one of the South's - and the Nation's - premier transportation museums. A Piedmont DC3, Wright Flyer replica, and highway heritage share the limelight with steam, diesel and electric railroading, passenger and freight cars, and - perhaps most importantly - the massive 1905 Back Shop and 1924 Bob Julian Roundhouse. Hear from several of the staff and they discuss day to day operations, as well a planning for special events. Travel back to 2012 to enjoy 20 N-S Heritage Diesels, then to 2014 to take in over two dozen classic Cab Units. We view #611 under restoration, also in late 2014 when work was about half completed. Archival films from the 1940s and 1950s help trace the history, and we end with a 22-minute film produced by Southern Railway to highlight how modern yards translated to time savings for shippers during the 1950s. |
