Dakota Minnesota & Eastern - The Last Days DVD 5 of 5 (1)
The Dakota Minnesota & Eastern Railroad is a large 1,103 mile Midwest Regional Railroad. The line was purchased in 1986 from the Chicago & NorthWestern and operated for 22 years before being acquired in October of 2008 by the Canadian Pacific. Shot during the summer of 2008, this program shows a system-wide look at the DM&E's last season as an independent railroad. Starting in Winona, the DM&E trains are seen traveling across the corn fields of Minnesota, then onto the great plains and wheat fields of South Dakota. Next the DM&E rolls through the Badlands to Rapid City. The train action then continues into the state of Wyoming and to the bentonite mines at Colony. This program features both DM&E yard switching and road freights across the scenic granger line that contains numerous large grain elevators, along with several historic and former C&NW depots. The DM&E's locomotives include models: GP38-2, GP40, SD40-2 and SD40-3's. We also take a brief look at connecting CP and UP trains plus some steam action on the Black Hills Central.

Dakota Minnesota & Eastern - The Last Days DVD Richard Nelson (Northern Illinois) on 2011-06-04 20:03:25.
I bought my copy a while back. The program is overall very good. The camera work is pretty good, but could be better in spots. The handheld camera scenes are a bit jerky, but these are minimal overall. A tripod is absolutely necessary for any video production, handheld just is not acceptable. Location selection is good, with a few excellent spots selected. Overall, a 3.5 out of 5 rating for this DVD.
Additional remarks by Richard Nelson: Narration: Just enough. Would kids enjoy this? I doubt it. Image quality: Good. DVD Value: Good Value Recommend to others? Yes.
