The Powder River Basin lies between Wyoming's Bighorn Mountains and the Black Hills of South Dakota. Thirteen active mines produce over 400 million tons of low-sulfur coal each year and it is up to the BNSF Railway and Union Pacific to transport it from the mines to customers throughout the United States and various ports for export.
Over 100 miles of coal hoppers roll through the Powder River Basin each day. The majority of traffic can be found along the Orin Subdivision between Donkey Creek Junction and Shawnee Junction, making this the highest tonnage mainline in the world. This joint line serves several Powder River Basin mines including the Caballo, Belle Ayr, Cordero Rojo mines, Coal Creek, Black Thunder mines, North Antelope Rochelle and the Antelope mines.
We begin at Donkey Creek Junction and follow the Orin Sub south to Shawnee Junction where joint trackage ends. Between those two points, a steady parade of long, heavy coal trains traverse the triple track main. Get ready for 117 miles of coal as 7idea Productions presents: "Coal Trains of the Powder River Basin"

7Idea Productions has produced another of their outstanding films. The camera work was outstanding, as usual. However, they were limited by the subject matter. From the description I was reluctant to get this Blue Ray disc but I did anyway. Now I think my reluctance was fully justified. If you want to spend two + hours looking at very, very long trains hauling loaded and unloaded hopper cars youll enjoy this. I didnt know there were so many hopper cars in the entire world and if I never see another one, itll be soon enough. :>) For the entire two + hours there was not one single railroad car shown of any other type than hoppers.
Let me say something about 7Idea of whose products I have almost every one (30), and on which I am very high. They are the only producer Ive seen, and no, I havent seen them all, whose product you can buy blind and know with a 99% probability that you are going to get a well produced and enjoyable product. I did just that recently with their latest issue, Cascade Snow Fighters which is so new I havent even received it yet

You know, you just can't go wrong with a 7Idea production item. Good scenery, good info, well staged shots with good framing.
Would have liked to have seen a bit more of the active mining stuff but that's not a fault really. Just a personal preference.

Until now, I've avoided videos about the Powder River Basin because, have lived in Western Pennsylvania, that coal trains are boring. When it comes to Aaron Bentson and 7idea productions interpretation of the Power River Basin, I wasn't bored at all. Enjoyed not only the information about the trains and where they were going, but the information about the coal mines themselves. The scenery, always a big part of 7idea videos, was wonderful; who says Wyoming is dull and unexciting? Another great video!

Wow!!!!! 7Idea have done it again!!!! Fantastic is not an adequate word to describe the production standards of this company. A new Bluray from 7Idea and from a seller that cares, what can go wrong? Thank you both for the pleasure derived from this superb product.
