See the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad and their Iron Ore Railway operations in Upper Michigan. You'll see a system-wide look at the C&NW's Railroad activity with numerous runbys. Located on the famous Marquette Iron range at Palmer, Michigan, you'll see fascinating mining activities at the Empire Mine and taconite plant. The scenes include: open pit mining using huge shovels and trucks, crude ore dumping at the crusher, various stages of iron ore processing inside the plant and ore cars being filled with taconite pellets. You'll see exciting railroad activity with numerous runby's and pace scenes, including the new GE Locotrol units as the CNW transports the ore 60 miles to Escanaba. Located at Escanaba, on the shores of Lake Michigan, the CNW operates a taconite storage facility & shipping port. The activities here include a cab ride on SD18 #6635, rotary ore car dumping, pellet transport conveyor system, pellet reclaimer & stacker and ship loading on the huge ore carrier Joseph L. Block.
