Cajon Pass is one of the world"s great railroading landmarks. From 1991 to 1993, Video Rails visited Cajon, capturing great scenes of Southern Pacific, Santa Fe, Union Pacific, and Amtrak trains at your favorite Cajon hotspots. The result was two entertaining videos that have been combined here on one action-packed DVD.

Cajon II - Railroading in the "90s
It"s pre-merger days and Southern Pacific, Santa Fe, and Union Pacific are sending their latest motive power to tackle this famous mountain pass. You"ll see a wide variety of manifest trains and unit trains at classic photo sites and new locations as well. Long, heavy freights grind up the slopes to the summit and squeal downgrade to the desert below, filling the screen with nonstop excitement. Cajon in the "90s means mainline railroading at its best! (1 hour 30 minutes)

Cajon Pass Cab Ride

The views from the cab of your locomotive give you a whole new perspective of this famous route. It"s a thrilling ride! (1 hour)

At the end of 1993, Video Rails released a sequel to Cajon Pass from 1987. In my opinion, the original video on Cajon was better than Cajon II. The original Cajon Pass had an historic film segment on the construction of SP's West Colton Yard; however, there are no such films on the new Cajon. Nevertheless, this new edition is just as great. Since 1987, Santa Fe and Union Pacific had taken delivery of widecab locomotives. Santa Fe had also reintroduced its famous Warbonnet scheme. Southern Pacific had taken over Rio Grande in 1988, and examples of speed-lettered SP locomotives are shown. Cajon II is 30 minutes longer than the original, with footage to Victorville and a cab ride on SP's Palmdale Cutoff taking up much of that half-hour. Also, a few wintry scenes add another dimension to this famous pass. One year later, in 1994, Video Rails released the full length of the cab ride shown in Cajon II. This 60-mintue program takes place on SP's route over the pass. Not much narration is on this cab ride program, but it it still exciting to watch. This 150-minute combo DVD is yet another great version of a favorite hotspot. I recommend it highly to railfans everywhere.

Additional remarks by VideoRailsFan:
Narration: Just enough.
Would kids enjoy this? I doubt it.
Image quality: Excellent!
DVD Value: Good Value
Recommend to others? Definitely.

Treats the subject of Cajon Pass with great detail-shows many different aspects of the area & the narration is very informative. The cab ride is very interesting with enough variety of angles so it is not boring to watch.A good one.
