Comprised of main and branch lines of the former Reading & Pennsylvania railroads, the two systems were united in 1984 with a tunnel and a new station replacing the former Reading terminal. Fully electrified earlier in the 1900s the system until the late 1980s continued to make use of the oldest cars in regular service in the USA. These original Reading cars have now been retired,, but you can still see and hear them along with 5 other types of electric cars all over the system
