There are now many Big Boy dvds out on the market. This is the 2nd one I have purchased. This program is a thorough program in the history off the Big Boys as well as the construction process of this one. There are many many runbys featured as well as the Ogden ceremony in detail. Trains had the best front row seat for this event as they put a lot into this production. You can go out and buy other Big Boy programs that are available but I think those programs will be largely redundant to this one albeit with some small differences. Trains did a great job and the picture quality is very clear. If you want to get more Big Boy dvds, I would wait until there are programs covering other territory other than what was covered in May.

I did not buy this here but thru publisher. there was some good interviews however the video quality itself was subpar compared to other producer videos. frame shudders, etc.
HOWEVER it is a good value still

And excellent video. Complete story of it's retirement and resurrection. Beautiful footage of trip to Utah and excellent narration. It's almost as good as being there. It almost gives you goosebumps when the giant is awakened. You leave with a feeling of the magnitude of this accomplishment and the pain the workers must have been through to accomplish it. Congratulations on a job that was said it couldn't and wouldn't be done. Thank you Union Pacific. You make all railroaders proud.

2019 was a thankful year. I got to visit Utah and watch Big Boy 4014 & 844 in person. Trains Magazine crew and Jim Wrinn did an excellent job on capturing the historic moment. Love the history of the Big Boys along with many people who worked on the railroad and Jim Ehrenberger was a railroad employee in the 1950s and talked about the history of the big locomotives. This video even shows the restoration of 4014 at the Cheyenne Steam Shops and senior manager Ed Dickens talks about the information of Big Boy 4014 during the restoration and they were even cab footages. In May 2019, 4014 and Living Legend 844 pulled a excursion run from Cheyenne, Wyoming to Ogden, Utah for the 150 celebration of the first Transcontinental Railroad which was completed at Promontory Summit on May 10, 1869. Throughout the whole journey, Big Boy 4014 was in the lead. This video does not have the May 10, but you can see it in another video from Trains Magazine (Best of 2019). Big Boys were the important story of American history and 4014 return to steam was the biggest story of the 21st century. I bought this video along with Big Boy on tour part 2. The king has returned to steam and hopefully Ed Dickens will have Big Boy 4014 and Living Legend 844 in operation for generations to come.
