1993 saw a variety of railroading across the country with Pentrex and Video Rails on the scene to record the action for us. Here are fallen flags, and private trains no longer running like the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus Train. From some of the oldest steam locomotives to still operate to new/old E-units to the latest EMD power in 1993, we cover the power scene. We uncover the rails with rotary snow plows. Featured are the former D&RGW steam powered rotary on Cumbres Pass and Southern Pacific rotaries on Donner Pass. And an exclusive look at the removal of historic Track #1 over Donner Pass.

First West Coast run of the newly rebuilt Union Pacific E-Units.
The new EMD SD-70M's on Southern Pacific's Coast Line.
Nevada Northern's famous 4-6-0 #40 on a special excursion run.
The Southern Pacific Rotaries on Donner Pass.
The Sierra Railway special "Movie Train"
The Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus Train.
Super Bowl Special Trains.
The Cumbres and Toltec Steam Rotary.
Santa Fe Business and Passenger Specials.
The Avalanche that closed Amtrak's Surfline at San Clemente.
Southern Pacific's 2472 on its run from San Jose to Los Angeles.

It's hard to believe this was shot almost 30 years ago! The image quality is very good for the era. The Blu-ray version isn't like current razor sharp video, but I was impressed.

Especially loved the SP Rotaries over Donner. Enjoyed the video very much.

Additional remarks by Alpine Joe:
Narration: Just enough.
Image quality: Excellent!
DVD Value: Excellent Value!
