Whatever it takes! In the steam to diesel transition era you never knew what come down the line. It could be steam, it could be a shiny new diesel and sometimes it was a steam and diesel pulling together. If you needed horsepower, the command was "Mix 'em up!"

Horsepower was the main thing - just get the tonnage over the road!. But for the railfan observer, B&O's mixed bag of external and internal combustion power made for a full show, for the B&O was in transition. In short order diesels took over completely.

Here we get to see the B&0 in the late transition years between 1955 and 1957. Rare film takes us back to a mainline ruled by steam...and then to mixed power and finally all diesels. Much of the action takes place on the B&O in and around Akron, Ohio.
