Norfolk and Western Class J 4-8-4 number 611 was one of 14 streamlined engines built by owner Norfolk & Western. It ran for the N&W between 1950 and 1959. It was restored and operated once again in excursion service from 1982 to 1994. It ran for the first time in 2015(Volume 1), and now in 2016 we get to see more great action of this superb streamlined engine. The focus of this show is the May 7-8, 2016 trips from Roanoke. Like in 2015 these trips consisted of a morning run to Lynchburg up Blue Ridge Grade, and back to Roanoke assaulting the Blue Ridge Grade from the other side on its return. In the afternoon the 611 would haul this large passenger train westward to Walton where it was turned for the return to Roanoke. Like the morning run that assaulted Blue Ridge Grade, the afternoon trip to Walton featured two climbs of Christiansburg Mountain.

There is two-camera coverage of these Roanoke Trips, which brings you two shots on each trip up Blue Ridge Grade, and multiple shots on the Walton trips as well as regular locations on each trip. We also see 611 enter and emerge from Montgomery Tunnel, and witness several scenes at Shawsville plus near the summit near Christiansburg. There are many shots where we pan the driving rods and the engine going away, as well as the oncoming views. The weather was very good as you can see by the preview clips.

In addition to the Roanoke trips we follow 611 one-way from Roanoke to Manassas, where it will do the final excursions for 2016(These are in Volume 3). Special locations were selected for the gradient to showcase great 611 action. One thing about all these 611 videos (all 3 Trilogy dvd's) there is superb steam action with 611 working hard in most scenes.

Don't miss Roanoke trips from 2016, with great action scenes, plus the 1-way trip to Manassas. All shot in High Definition, and available in Standard Definition, or HD Blu-Ray.

Color, live audio, and limited narration so you can enjoy the action.

611 trilogy vol.2 covers norfolk & western 611 operating on the roanoke trips in early may 2016 611 would work hard hauling an impressive train on the former n&w mainline operating on both the blue ridge and christiansburg grades with lots of stack talk there's also a really nice shot before entering and coming out of Montgomery Tunnel and one thing i didn't notice at first was the flags 611 was wearing (i thought they were the american flags but there were pink flags as these trips would operate over the mother's day weekend and i find that fitting) the video than finishes with the ferry move to Manassas va traveling on the former southern mainline 611 dose most of the talking in this video as she puts on a sight of stack talk for this program

Additional remarks by chris collins:
Narration: Just enough.
Would kids enjoy this? Maybe.
Image quality: Excellent!
DVD Value: Good Value
Recommend to others? Definitely.

Like the first and last volumes of this series, the majority of the footage was shot by Brady Sanker. However this is the only program in the trilogy, where we see Greg's own footage. However as 611 enters Manassas yard, the engine makes lots of wheelslips, and going at 10 mph due to some sharp switches.

Narration: Just enough.
Would kids enjoy this? Yes.
Image quality: Excellent!
DVD Value:: Fair.

Not a review of the content of the video (because I've never seen it) but more of the quality of the disc. I purchased all three of the 611 Trilogy discs in Blu-Ray format along with another Greg Scholl Blu Ray video and NONE of them play on ANY of the four Blu Ray players in my house. A couple of them start but the video and sound break up within a few seconds and one of them actually freezes my player where I have to pull the plug to get it to reset. None of them are watchable at all. I brought this up to Greg Scholl himself via email and mentioned he might have a problem with his Blu Ray transfers and he was no help at all, telling me that he received no other complaints. I found that incredibly hard to believe since every other Blu Ray disc I've played has never had a problem. I even offered to send them to him for inspection, at my own expense, but he was insinuating they might me counterfeit and didn't want to be bothered. I'm stuck with $100+ of worthless plastic discs. Don't buy the Blu Rays, get the DVD's instead. I will not be adding any other Greg Scholl videos to my vast collection of railroad related DVDs....

Additional remarks by ecarfar:
Narration: There was no narration.
Image quality: Poor.
DVD Value: Overpriced for the amount of enjoyment I got out of it.
Recommend to others? Definitely not!.
