Class One railroads were well supplied with a plethora of modern GE locomotives for use on their main line trains. For EMD fans, BNSF occasionally ran several trains with older EMDs on their Staples Subdivision in Minnesota. From October 2022 to the end of 2023, we followed many veteran EMD led trains on the Staples Subdivision. By the end of 2023, BNSF moved nearly all these survivors out of the Northtown terminal, and they were replaced by GE’s. Only a handful of trains were led with older EMDs in 2024, and we were there to capture most of them.
Many second generation 4 and 6 axle EMDs can be seen on both local and road freights. Some of which are led with foreign power.
Most of these locomotives are on borrowed time, so capturing these was a must. Two hours of great EMD entertainment is here in our series finale, Staples Sub EMDs, Volume 6!
