Review of Take This Train - Promo Films and Ads from the 1930s to Today DVD

During the 20th Century and continuing today, passenger train operators sought both to promote their services and inform the public. You will view a spectrum of trains ranging from the 1931 "20th Century Limited" to TurboTrain. Let the "Erie Limited" take you to the 1939 World's Fair, or the "Yankee Clipper" on a fast run from Boston to New York in 1941. Take mini-vacations aboard the "Royal Gorge" (1946), "California Zephyr" (1949), and "Canadian" (1955). See also smaller operators, such as Minneapolis & St Louis showing off new streamlined coaches, and, on a somber note, the Central of New Jersey in 1949, warning of losses incurred from commuter operations. Shorter clips represent the modern era: TurboTrain (1967), Amtrak music video "Something Magic" (1993), and spots for the stillborn "Marlboro Unlimited", short-lived "Florida Fun Train", plus "Rocky Mountaineer" and "Royal Canadian Pacific". The gate opens, and the call reverberates through the decades: "TAKE THIS TRAIN" !
