This was the first scheduled passenger train in over 50 years to ply the "Highline" (Inside Gateway). See the entire three day voyage, from Emeryville (Oakland) to Oroville, then through the misty lower reaches of spectacular Feather River Canyon to Keddie Wye. From here, 203 rare miles awaited, twisting and turning toward Lake Almanor and on through Westwood toward Bieber, where WP ended and GN began for the segment into Klamath Falls. Then, the Shasta Route is viewed in daylight (Amtrak's "Coast Starlight" sneaks beneath the grand mountain in cover of darkness). Your vantage point: the open platform of heavyweight Santa Fe office car number 33, and several of 6 dome cars! WP historic scenes, steam & diesel plus a long freight at William loop, and the pace of a special museum train down the canyon, fill out these 63 minutes of superb Northern California railroading!
