Pentrex captures the beautifully restored Atlanta and West Point steam locomotive number 290 as it pulle three different steam excursions throughout southern Georgia and Alabama.|
The first outing finds the Pacific-type engine running with her white accent stripes and tires painted black, as she would have appeared when in actual service. Hired for the day by a group of railfan photographers, the 290 pulls this photographer's special around Atlanta.
In August, 1992, the 290 fulfilled a long held dream by again running down her former rails to Montgomery, Alabama. The venerable locomotive made the historic trip over the Atlanta & West Point and Western Railway of Alabama. The event in its entirety is here for you to enjoy.
As part of the new Georgia Railroad the 290 pulls an excursion from Atlanta to Macon on the Savannah and Atlanta line, through the pine forests of Central Georgia. From Macon the 290 gets on the the old Georgia Southern & Florida line for Tifton. P
