Pentrex visited the "Big Sky" country of Montana in 1990 to witness the operations of one of the county"s newest regional railroads, the Montana Rail Link. The rugged landscapes of western Montana"s Rocky Mountains presented a challenge to early railroad builders and you"ll witness that continuing struggle as MRL operates high tonnage trains across the daunting grades of both Mullan and Bozeman Passes.
We"ll tour the entire length of the railroad from east to west, starting on the east end at Jones Junction and traveling to the end of MRL trackage at Sandpoint, Idaho. Both local freights and Burlington Northern hotshots are seen in action. There"s plenty of cab ride footage, too, as we ride several freights over the road"s mountainous terrain. From interesting locomotives to fantastic scenery, this DVD, released originally in VHS format in 1990, is filled with the kind of nonstop action that railfans love to see.
