Dolton, Illinois is a major junction some 16 miles south of downtown Chicago. Two east-west double track main lines, IHB & CSX are crossed at grade by a double track north-south main line serving UP & CSX. Traffic can be heavy often with two or more trains in view. NS's molten iron "bottle trains" use the junction. Power from NS, IHB, CN, BNSF, UP CSX, lease units and Amtrak can be seen.
Amazing volume of trains, CSX, NS, UP, BNSF, IHB, CN, CP, the bottle train, locals, stacks, pigs, autoracks and manifests all pound the diamonds of this very busy Chicagoland junction.
