I'd wanted to shoot the Thompson & Fraser Rivers once I saw the CTC Board article in the August 1988 issue, it took nine years but it was worth the wait. Stunning scenery, two railroads with interesting power and lots of action make for a great railfan experience, and we had an excellent time charging up and down in hot pursuit, or finding a good spot and just sitting. We had never really seen CN's big cowls or new SD75's, and Chris had never seen CP's "Red Barns" so we saw lots of new stuff. We caught "The Rocky Mountaineer" and the "American Orient Express," which were pretty neat and several times caught trains on both sides of the river. We covered the line from Hope BC (hence the title) to Kamloops through the magnificent Fraser and Thompson Rivet Canyons.
