Take a trip to Europe and focus on standard gauge steam in the former East Germany, as several locomotives are used in a winter Plandampf, or steam plan, whereby steam is placed on regularly scheduled freight and passenger trains for several days in a row. Many picturesque scenes include: interesting towns, viaducts, signals, and stations. Rare tank engines are seen including Class 94 (0-10-0T), Class 95 (2-10-2T), and Class 65 (2-8-4T) plus there are cameo appearances by other engines including a pair of Pacifics (4-6-2's), and a 2-10-0. You'll see why tank engines were so useful, when they arrive at a small stub-end station in the hilly-country, then simply run around the train and depart. There are some very "European" scenes with interesting locations where the train crosses a classic stone viaduct over a valley, and we see locations where the semaphore signal drops as a class 65 departs the area. This is fine example of German steam, videotaped in 1994. This show was also part of |
