Review of Rio Grande Steam Passenger Trains DVD

There is approximately 10 minutes of rare San Juan footage in this show from 2 different sources. This entire video is material we have gathered over many years from different cameramen. We ride the San Juan in the winter, then see one with extra cars since a group was riding. After that the same photographer shoots some images trackside in a few spots.

After the San Juan was discontinued only sporatic excursions by groups such as the Rocky Mountain Railroad Club took place each year. We see such trips during 1956 with a 2-day Alamosa-Durango Roundtrip and a 1958 trip from Alamosa to Durango, with a side trip to Farmington as the Silverton line was flooded. The Farmington Trip had K-37 493 for power and we get some good scenes riding and at stops. There is good coverage of a 1960 trip from Alamosa to Durango and Silverton with 476, and 483 to Alamosa on the last day. There are also scenes of various engines on 1963 and 1964 excursions.
