Railroads powered entirely by Alco diesel locomotives are few in number. The Green Bay & Western Railroad had a total of sixteen operating Alcos when this show was filmed in 1992, GB&W's last full year of operation as an independent company. Indeed, the railroad had an affinity for Alcos since diesels first replaced steam locomotives, keeping them well maintained and looking great in their deep red paint scheme.

Stretching from the east side to the west side of the Badger State, the Green Bay & Western line passed through scenic Wisconsin farmland. Much of the railroad's traffic was related to the state's booming paper industry. Local freights are seen in action as they work these vital enterprises. We follow road trains across the state, watching as they stop to pick up and set out cars.
