Wisconsin Central took over most of Britain's freight railroad in 1996, forming the English, Welsh & Scottish Railway. Join us as we visit in October, 1998 for a look at operations. We visited 6 of Britain's hot spots, Milford Junction for coal and EMD class 59s, Warrington on the electrified west Coast main line, Peak Forest for stone, Barnetby with its magnificent arrays of semaphores and one of the busiest spots in the country, Colton Junction, where the Leeds line joins the electrified East Coast main line. and Newport for steel and new EMD class 66s. Exciting high density railroading, with freights mixed up with 125 mph passenger trains.
