Union Pacific never retired 4-8-4 number 844, She became the first in a line of significant steam locomotives to be saved and restored to operating condition and then used as ambassadors for the UP. The public loves seeing and riding behind big steam! But steam requires a lot of care, and after the 2013 excursion season, 844 was pulled for major work and preparation for a 15 year inspection. 844 made her public return to steam at the head of an excursion train from Denver to Cheyenne for the annual Frontier Days Rodeo. Highball Productions captured the action from the steam shop in Cheyenne to Denver and back again.|
