Review of 4449 Return to Freedom DVD

Relive the American Freedom Train days of 1976 as SP 4449, repainted Red, White and Blue, rushes along the Columbia River and up the Deschutes to Bend, Oregon. Aerial footage as well.
Patriotism rode the rails on an "old glorious" weekend in March 2002, as famous Daylight 4-8-4 No. 4449 – restored to American Freedom Train colors powered a Columbia-Deschutes Special on the scenic run from Portland to Bend, Oregon, and return.

If you thought waving the flag was a stirring experience, just wait until you see 4449 rushing up the Columbia River – a burst of red, white and blue captured in some of the finest aerial footage ever recorded of a steam locomotive.

As we face a new era of soaring insurance premiums, this 14-car excursion may have been the last public fan trip for 4449 for years to come. Make sure you're on board for this video presentation of this historic trip.
