Grand Central Terminal (commonly misstated as "station") is an architectural Wonder of the World. That is has managed to survive -- and been thoroughly renovated -- into the 21st century is a miracle.
There may be other magnificent active railroad stations in the country (L.A. Union Passenger Terminal, Chicago Union Station, Cincinnati Union Station, Washingtion Union Terminal), but Grand Central is the crown jewel. This video accurately depicts the history of railroading in Manhattan, including the New York Central, New Haven, and Pennsylvania, as well as the commuter service.
The many details of the structure, including the marvelous ramps, as well as control areas that remain "top secret" are revealed. From the tragedy of the destruction of Penn Station (which ignited New York City to preserve its architectural heritage) to the daily threat of terrorism, this video is both historic and timely.
As any railroad history library requires a volume on both Grand Central and Penn, any video library worth its salt requires this video.
