Third Avenue Railway Vol 3 Connecticut Company DVD
THIRD AVENUE RAILWAY SYSTEM VOLUME III continues our Nostalgic Trolley Tour of this vast 400-mile, 1,500-car system with coverage of its lines in eastern Westchester County. You'll see extensive archive film footage of Routes 7 Yonkers Avenue, 241st St. New Rochelle, and 229th St.-Mount Vernon. A variety of action scenes in downtown New Rochelle is a highlight, and there is coverage of snow sweepers in action and the final day of streetcar operations in Yonkers. Scenes at the vast Mt. Vernon shops are included, along with poignant views of trolleys being towed to the yard where they were scrapped, stripped for parts, and burned.
In 1923, THE CONNECTICUT COMPANY operated nearly 1,000 trolleys on a 14-division system boasting 785 miles of track connecting Stamford, Bridgeport, New Haven, New London, Hartford, and Waterbury plus many outlying areas. ConnCo rostered more than 150 open cars, one of the largest fleets in America. This program depicts operations in the New Haven area in the late 1940s and features the open cars running to the Yale Bowl, along with a tour of several other lines. Preserved ConnCo cars at the Shore Line trolley museum are also shown. Nostalgic scenes of trolleys in action in Holyoke and Springfield, Massachusetts conclude the program.
