Originally a British TV program titled "Great Railways of Switzerland", this video is a trip along the Gotthard line of Switzerland, which connects to other countries of Europe. As for content, there is a lot of fast paced electric action, views of stations and yards and some historical equipment as well. Trains from Switzerland, Germany and Italy are seen speeding through the countryside. In addition to mainline electrified railroading, we see some interesting Diesel Passenger MUs and rack railways. Some equipment seen is difficult to find on any video, especially the vintage TEE Railcars which, according to the video, were about to be retired and placed into historical service. However, as with all Arts Magic DVDs, there is one issue that keeps recurring: Poor image quality. The image quality on this program leaves a lot to be desired. I understand that Arts Magic might not have a huge budget, but I would have gladly paid a bit more to have better processed films, especially since I'm interested in electric railroading, and the action and subject matter is well done on this program. Pixelated images on a professionally produced program doesn't make much sense and it really detracts from the overall program. |
